All because one professor's incredibly sloppy research sought to justify rape and war crimes.

The United States owes an apology for this.

A Harvard University professor who argued that the Japanese army did not force Korean “comfort women” to work in brothels for the military but that they were willingly recruited as prostitutes has come under increasing fire from Koreans, with a group of Harvard students demanding he apologise and retract his paper.

“It is a wrong conclusion based on grounds very biased and lacking trustworthiness,” the statement on the website of the Harvard Korean society said of Professor J. Mark Ramseyer’s paper published in academic journal the International Review of Law and Economics.

“The issue of ‘comfort women’ is an international inhumane act and his academic view, which justifies and negates this act, is an immoral and shameless view.”

日本軍は韓国人の「慰安婦」を強制的に売春宿で働かせていたのではなく、自ら進んで売春婦として採用していたと主張したハーバード大学の教授が、韓国人からの非難を強めており、ハーバード大学の学生グループが謝罪と論文の撤回を要求している。

"ハーバード韓国学会のウェブサイトに掲載された声明では、学術誌「International Review of Law and Economics」に掲載されたJ・マーク・ラムゼール教授の論文について、「非常に偏った根拠に基づく間違った結論であり、信頼性に欠ける」と述べています。

"「慰安婦」問題は国際的な非人道的行為であり、この行為を正当化し否定する彼の学術的見解は、不道徳で恥知らずな見解である。"
